Forecasts predict extreme cold winter for Chicago

Don't forget that we didn't get a really good snowstorm until FEB last year. Maybe by the second week of Feb we'll get a bit more snow. But I don't think it's going to be anything big really.

They were showing blizzard pictures and then today's pictures in the same spots this morning on the news. It was entertaining to see all the cars stuck on lake shore drive.

the damp streets are keeping me from getting a wash, but im going today. Snow cant melt away fast enough and my car is extremely filthy. Looks like mid 30s-40s for the next 10 days.

Yep. Still have the potential for some extremely cold temps yet...and some decent snow falls. We've had snow in March/April before.

I'm loving the warmer temps. Bring on Spring already, this winter has failed.

Same here. These warmer temps have made me want spring a little sooner this year. I suppose it'll be our luck that we have snow in May.

Decidedly colder weather takes hold at least for a spell later this week. Temps by Fri & Sat will struggle to get into the 20s. And the overnight GFS forecast run for the coming 2 weeks has a colder look to it with a series of cold outbreaks and increased snowfall indicated. Our in-house statistical work has shown with some persistence that Feb temps have turned colder in nearly half of seasons which have produced warmth and limited snowfall comparable to what we've seen in the 2011-12 season. The springs which follow have also exhibited a modest bias toward cooler than average weather in 6 of 10 years after such mild winters. The 7-day cumulative snowfall forecast we post here off the GFS model and off our MDA database is but one of the 4 daily forecast cycles of the GFS but it depicts cumulative 4"+ snows for the Chicago area. It will be interesting to follow this forecast trends in the day and weeks ahead.

I didn't look at the storm path, but the middle of Iowa, and eastern Nebraska got hit with a good storm over the weekend, but it must've gone south.
