Welded motor mounts?

Anyone ever just skipped the bolting in the motor mounts to the k-member and just welded them in place instead?*

I want to change my 3rd gen mounts to solid mounts and I hear it's a p.i.t.a. To get new bolts in. I was thinking I could just cut the stock mounts out and weld in the solid mounts.

Anything I should be concerned about?

you still have a stock kmember? theyre not that bad to get... a few extensions and a swivel socket through the spring pocket gets the job done.

Thanks and yeah. I was going to replace it but I'd rather just get the car out this year and worry about that after this motor pops, I'm sure it will by winter time.

I was told by some people that it was super difficult and you had to drop the a-arm go to get access, I've also heard it could be done with a swivel and some extensions. I'm just not a very patient person especially when my Capel tunnel starts starts acting up.

You must be looking at my Facebook updates. Pics coming. Just welded em few hours ago. Cut the old ones off, didn't even bother trying to get at the nuts on the back.

Why the hell didn't you just unbolt the old mounts? Its not that hard. I did it on my GTA without an issue. Were your bolts seized/rusted or otherwise?

not bloody likely with all that oem cosmoline still on the K member and the sbc's propensity for marking its territory with oil

probably didnt want to buy bolts

Everyone kept telling me that I'd have to drop the a-arms to get to em. Plus at the last moment I couldn't find the key to get my lugnuts off. Thought it was in my glove box but nope.

Let me rephrase that. We tried to get the nuts in the back with the tires on but could only get to 2 on the drivers side with a 16 mm wrench. Have up at that point.

I took my wheels off, and had the car on jack stands with the motor out. I replaced them in about 20 minutes.
