Running 93 every so often is more to keep parts of the system lubricated, 93 has a lot of lubrication properties that e85 doesn't

that makes sense because e85 with it's corrosive properties, although it's basic and not acidic... right? and gas is neither?

Back on the subject of E85 minivans, I do notice a few things when I run a full tank through the van. One is it seems to idle cleaner. Smoother maybe? Another is that sweet smell from the exhaust. And my wife says this every time that it feels peppier like it responds better to acceleration off the line. Since it got hot, and with the van loaded with the family, it chugs pretty bad with the AC on. But on the corn it seems to be better. I have no factual data to back any of this up, just about 4 years of experience of running it on and off in our van.

It never skips a beat either when I go from one to the other. And my rule is I only run it when its .80 - $1.00 per gallon less than gas. Like last weekend gas was $2.60 and the corn was $1.79. Filled it up for $32 and it lasted the same amount of time and driving as it normally does on gas. And it was on fumes when I filled it up.

From what I understand there is no ph spec on e85, gas can be corrosive but there is a spec that it has to conform to and anything too high or low will get rejected

I thought it was because E85 draws in moisture and that can corrode your lines and whatnot. Also the nature of it dries out rubber and plastic lines?? But if you dont let it sit in the car, any car 2003 and newer was supposed to be setup to handle it as far as having corrosive resistant fuel systems. Obviously not ready tune wise tho...

it defiantly draws in moisture but shouldn't be able to pick up enough in a normal amount of time to make any real difference, now if it sits 6 months maybe

Damn, i leave for lunch and there are like 3 more pages to this thread

Yes, E85 is corrosive. It will clean out the entire fuel system, as well as the combustion chamber (the Devo mile car used to run E98 and never had a spot of carbon on the valves, pistons, etc.). But what it cleans out of the fuel system can start to gum up the injectors, badly if it's left alone.

Like Mook said, most E85 guys will run a tank of 93 through it once in a while in order to clean the injectors out.

@syP like mook said, on the evos there isn't a way to use a flex fuel sensor with the stock ECU. So most guys either test their E85 every time they fuel up. But I'm too lazy to do that, so we just don't tune the car on the ragged edge. That way, if I get E80 or E75 or E70, the car is still fine with it. The timing isn't so aggressive that it will knock from the lower alcohol content, and the higher gasoline content just causes the AFR to richen up a little bit.

So uhm, you realize its like mathematically impossible for you to get the same mileage when comparing dino fuel to E85, right? I think that's all people are trying to get to with this minivan conversation. You agree to the mathematics part, right? The whole 30% difference in stoich? Cuz that shit is like science - nothing to do with experience or subjectivity.

I'll be honest, I don't have much time to browse the forums and keep up with everyone quarreling in other threads. Its rare that I get an occasion to actually spend 30 minutes or more browsing TCG.

Yes Dan I get that. still doesn't explain why I can use either type and still fill up Sunday night, make the same daily drive, and run out on Thursday on the way home. Hell I even make it to the same station. Maybe the van is getting horrible mileage on the gas for some reason but normal mileage on the corn?? I'm just saying I don't see a lick of difference.

Now with my old Vette I had tuned for e85 went from mid 20's on gas to like 12 on the corn. There is no denying that. Lol

Maybe it's just not making the change in the pcm and it's running super lean on e85

First off the car isn't broken. It's waiting on upgraded parts that are on back order. The car was raced in St. Louis and I decided to pull the trigger on a few upgrades. There's plenty of camera shots of the car racing.

And I'm not sure what you mean by camera bitch, it's never been a goal of mine to put the car in kots, I could honestly care less about running my car in that event.

But if you want to beat your chest so hard, why did you have to put your car in the Friday class? You could have run Jrs... Your car is fast enough to keep up.

Oh wait now I know why. You didn't want to race Max or Al. Makes sense for you to go for the easy win.

So if E85 cleans better then 93 then why does running 93 help clean the injectors of gunk left from the e85 which cleans better?

What? Why? There has to be more to this.
