Rear brake issues...

I have been having an issue with the little anti rattle clips that go on the sides of the pads. They keep breaking, which causes the brakes to chirp like crazy while driving.

I can only assume I am being too rough on them when installing the pads. I know they are designed to be a tight fit, but what’s the best method for squeezing them in there without stressing them out? Or is it possible that the brake install kits I have been using from autozone, are just absolute junk? Or is there possibly another issue?

Any help is appreciated.... I am getting tired of swapping them out.

if so try a different brand pad and see if it goes away

No the clips are part of a disc brake install kit. UP till now I have been using autozone ones, that might just be the issue. I will try a kit from napa next time.

that or is there a way to put something like gasket maker between the pad and the clip

different, better clips should solve your problem. or take it to a shop and let them take care of it.

autozone stuff is REALLY cheap, the other day I bought some rotors for a brake job I was doing for a friend. The rotors must have been out of rotors, I couldn't get them to sit square on the wheel bearing. I bet OEM ford clips should do the trick.

autozone stuff is junk with oem brakes use either raybesos or wagner if not using original ford parts i deal with problems like this everyday at work if the problem continues shoot me a pm ill see if i can help you out

ok new question....


Here is a diagram of the stock brake setup....

I keep breaking the anti rattle clips (#12) so I bought the hardware kit below...

The kit comes with 8 new anti rattle clips (marked by red circles)

my question is.... WTF are the things marked with green circles and where do they go?

They look like shims, but not having disassembled the brakes on this car, have no clue where they would go. Is the kit cobra specific?

No, the kit is the same for the GTs and the Machs

They are not shims, they fit on the caliper on the inside where the inspection hole is on the caliper from the inside.

They keep downward pressure on the pads to keep them in place. Every wonder why you have to press the cailper down so hard to get the bolts started? Thats cause of those clips.

So they go above the little v shaped springs on the pads??


I keep getting different answers.... so confused.
