2003 Cobra Transmission whine

Just wondering, do all the 6 speed transmissions make a whinning sound when engaged? If I have my windows up and radio off and the car is at an idle, when I let the clutch out in neutral it makes a whinning sound. It is also kind of noisey when it is in gear. When I put the clutch in, the sound is completly gone. Anyone else expirencing this????

I had this problem with mine. The noise went away when I stepped on the clutch, it turned out I had a bent input shaft, and it was a 26 spline Libertys gear. I had Lyle and Dan replace it.

Mine does it mostly in 1st gear.

When my car started whinning it turned out to be the planetary gear set which is spinning when the clutch is engaged in neutral, when you push the clutch in you realse that set and the whinning stops. Mine had to be rebuilt as a result, and I suggest Sutton for the repair. It's also cheap to beef it up while you're at it so have at it, I did.

I had the same issue when i bought mine, got a hold of SVT and they said to put GM Syncromesh fluid in the tranny so i did and the sound dun up went away

+1 yes run gm sycromesh the only way to go. its expensive but worth it.

so your telling me that this faint whining noise has to do with the tranny and not the clutch? im going to be bringing the car in for some mods. should they know of this problem, because it sounds pretty common. ive also heard from a guy who worked at ford that this is normal and will do no harm. ill take all the advice you can give people.

I have the same noises comming from my noisey tranny too. But it works good and have never had any problems with it.

My car was very loud, and it only took about 100 miles to get ridiculous. Good luck. I am also running GM fluid now.

It's a Mustang not a Mercedes Benz. Drive Accordingly.

Even my T-56 makes a light whine noise through the first few gear at the lower rpm range. Other than that its quiet. Running Royal Purple and no problems.

I dunno There about 500 recommended by enthusiast fluids to run in the T-56. I picked a name out of a hat and it was royal purple. The end.


I might try filling it with some koolaid next. Oh yeah!
