You need to know if you have a 6 or 8 bolt crankshaft. All cobras were 8 bolt. The way I recall it, the 4.6 Romeo 2V was 6 bolt and the Windsor was 8.

If you have a 8 bolt crank then all you need is the FRPP 11" clutch upgrade which runs about $240 at Summit

Is there any way to tell without ripping the tranny out i.e. vin number or some code on the door etc?
ENGINE BUILD CODE LABEL

The engine build code label on the RH cam cover, as follows:

PASSENGER CAR

6G 804 AA or AB - Romeo 4.6L 2V engine
6G 808 AA or AB - Romeo 4.6L 2V engine with oil cooler
6G 866 AA or AB - Romeo 4.6L 2V engine Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV)
6G 926 AA - Windsor 4.6L 2V engine
LIGHT TRUCK

6G 840 AA - Romeo 4.6L 2V engine
6G 870 AA - Windsor 4.6L 2V engine

what advantage is there with a bigger clutch?
1/2" more surface area results into 10% more capacity accrording to FRPP
