i orderd this from rpm outlet, does anyone know what the nub on the filler cap is for or is that just the stock picture, the tech guy at rpm had no idea!

It looks like a pressure overflow vent. The cap either under pressure or temp vents out that tube either to a catch tank or on the ground.
