Default Cannot get the key out of the ignition

Well today I get to work and cant get the key out of the ignition. I know yesterday my car became apart of the whole GM recall. But I don't think this is related to that. Since it is a manual transmission car, GM makes me shift into reverse in order to remove the key. Much like putting an auto into Park.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or even eliminate the need to put it into reverse every time?

@Stink Star Productions I know you're a GM tech

Isnt there a release in the steering column? Pop the cover and jam a screwdriver in it.

Key is on the dash. Not the column. I didn't see a hole tho. I'll have to look

I've seen a lot of shifters where the park switch either goes bad or the wires snap off from going from park to drive so many times

Yea but what about the manuals? Is it all electronic? Can I fool the system to think it's in reverse?

That's the tune I read the thread title in.

Key won't come out the dash, even in reverse.

The problem is that the accessories are on. Radio is lit up. And volt and oil light are on. I'd rather not totally hack this car just yet

take the center console apart. you'll find the safety switch in there. the connector might be corroded or wires frayed. just jump it and never worry about it again

Well I should've just taken it apart right away. It's cable driven. The cable with the red tab needs to move forward in order to pull the key. Seems like it's broke somewhere. I moved it forward and now I can pull the key in any gear. But now it's hard to get in reverse. Might remove the lockout. Name: uploadfromtaptalk1404274813089.jpg
