The TDI's retain their value quite well on the used market. Hard to justify paying for a years or so old used one, when a new one is only $2-3K more. Buddy, that used to be on this board, has a 2010 Jetta TDI wagon, with the 6-speed manual. He gets great gas mileage, and it's been reliable thus far. People rave about the interiors, but the more I sit in them, the more disappointed I am. EVERYTHING creaks and rattles, hard plastics everywhere, seats are not really all that comfortable. But that's just my observations

Just get the one that has the side car that is a drive wheel. So it's actually 2WD.

TDI > Prius. If you want MPGs, you really shouldn't care about the interior, but the Prius inside is pretty gross. Its like Toyota had $4.28 left over in the budget for the cabin designs. Guy I worked with tuned his '11 or '12? Golf TDI, he said he gained torque and more highway MPGs. And it looks like a normal VW car, not a space shuttle.

Just buy a Cruze. Not as expensive to repair like a TDi and not as much of a girly shitbox as the C

lumina>Tdi>Cruze>prius.

Go buy a Metro if you want affordable mpgs because still cooler than Prius.

CMAXX or Fusion Hybrid. Check out the stats and performance on both, especially the CMAXX.

Send a PM to "The Beast".

John will take care of you.

I thought the c maxx looked kinda cool in commercials till I saw it in person and its basically a mini van.

The fusion is a good looking car though

Fusion does look good. Even though Ford is going all Aston Martin on the models as they refresh.

Co-worker just has his car wrecked, he got rear-ended. He bought a Prius C as a replacement. I don't know the name of the color, but its Tic-Tac-Orange, or Hi-C Orange to me. Not sure the actual name.

Fairly comfortable, decent back seat. It has more leg room than my Focus ST does. He said he was getting about 57mpg per tank. Tiny ass turning circle.

Still like my ST more though. But then again, I wanted a fun daily hatch so I'll just be happy with 37mpg instead of 50+

You can get very new standard hybrid Prii for under 10k. Nav, leather, etc. It's still slow and a Toyota but it's cheap to buy, cheap to maintain and costs almost nothing to fuel.

I didn't realize they were so cheap. 12-14k seems to be the going rate for an 07+ with under 80k miles. super affordable.

I haven't seen any sub $10k examples without extreme miles on them. really don't know how reliable these things are at super high mileage either. I'd assume the engine lasts nearly forever since it's not doing all the work or even running at all some times.

Exactly, I'd be worried about the electric motors and the batteries. Batteries are only supposed to last 10 years in ideal conditions, but I am not sure what Toyota's program is for replacing them. Either way, I would imagine it isn't cheap

72k on a prius seems high to me though. I heard they start getting bad gas mileage over time, dunno how true that is.

I've been reading up on it, expected life of the battery is 180k miles according to Toyota. there really is no indication of the battery condition though. when the car starts throwing warning lights is how you know

I'd take a look at 06+ civics. I average around 35mpg, and have gotten as good as 38.
