A Howell man operating a 2013 Dodge SRT Viper was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon.
Police have identified the victim as Martin Morse, 43, of Howell.
Witnesses indicated the man operated the vehicle at about 12:57 p.m. from the area of Big Boy on westbound M-59 in Hartland Township when he exited at the ramp to northbound US-23, stopped, and then accelerated, running off the roadway and into the cable median.
Police said Morse died at the scene, and cannot say what his speed was or why he accelerated so rapidly.
The crash remains under investigation by Michigan State Police.
