need help with a diagnosis.

So I was just going through the gears on a local highway and when I shifted into third it got completely stuck. No PowerShifting was done.

I had to pull over to the side and turn off the car. After some light tugs and everything it finally came out of third. I left it for a little to cool and then started jt back up. It now goes into third fine.

Any ideas on what could have happened?

well no car info makes it hard to figure but id say one of the fork pads fell off and jammed in there

or a detent ball was stuck

Maybe that solenoid got stuck somehow. Weirder things have happened.

Here's a thread about a guy with a Vette that sticks in 3rd, only it's an automatic. Still, the testing methods may point you in the right direction. Good luck, Mikey.

I do not think it is a bent shift fork just becasue the car would be stuck in 3rd or rough to get in & out of 3rd.

Based on some research, it doesn't look good. Seems to be a common problem and the trans is soon to go. I hope I'm wrong though. =(

Some other interesting information. Depending on your build date, could be weak aluminum shift forks...Apparently they changed the shift forks during the 2003 model year.
