📰 Auto News Next VW GTI puts out 210 hp, R version gets AWD and 270 hp

Volkswagen's high-performance plans for the new Golf will spawn three new models, beginning with the new 210 hp GTI set to debut in Paris and go on sale in the middle of 2009. According to Automotive News, the Mk. VI GTI will sprint to 60 in a tick above seven seconds and hit a top speed of around 150 mph.

A performance-oriented diesel Golf, dubbed the GTD, will hit the market in April, putting out around 170 hp from its common-rail diesel, while a range-topping R model, available through Volkswagen Individual, will be churn out 270 hp, send power to all four wheels and will be equipped with an aero package that includes a "black gleaming diffuser." Sales of the R version will begin in November of 2009.

The 10 horse increase on the GTI is crap by the way. The 30th anniversary edition in europe has more than that.

i'm sure the R will be cool; just not worth the money performance wise. they did the same thing for the R32's; it was like a 10hp difference.

Its just the same shit they did for the new A4. Do you have to get the motor EPA tested and shit when you add 10hp but don't do anything besides some slight engine tuning? Someone should research this.

wow! if you modify a car with forced induction, it can be made faster? no fuckin way! i dont think you realize the cost of modifying a VW... to add turbod would be a nightmare and then the tuning and drivibility would never be perfect.... and even then you are driving a fuckin golf... ill stick to my proper sports cars, thank you

i think they are a classy upper class alternative to other awd midsized hatches, say a wrx. with that said i would much rather have a wrx or an STI for the amount of money the older ones cost.

I would take the R32 over a Saabaru 9-2x anyday.

But if i was going for the all out mod car i'd stick with the stock 1.8 GTis because their motors can handle some pretty nasty amounts of HP in stock form.

I wouldn't consider then mutual. I'd take the WRX if i wanted a sweet DD. I'd buy the R32 (first gen) if i was in the price range for a upper class used car i'd buy the R32. But i don't have money right now, so i'll take the R32 for when i go to dream land.

i dont really know what class to put the R32 in. to me the relatively smaller size (compared to other "luxury" cars) and its 240hp awd setup puts it in more of a performance class. dont get me wrong, i really like the R32's and would drive one in a heart beat but i think they are overpriced from the factory and even more over priced used.

Oh i agree, but if its a certified used car and at a good price i'd snatch it up instead of a new car. Seeing on ebay that they are not at a good price i'll wait a couple years.

oem was like $375 for 1. he spent $400 for 4. i think they're borbets; look like factory for the most part. his winter rims he had were some super crappy no named ones. i swear they each weighed like 60 lbs.
