If my car is repaired right the first time, YES! I find that most of these "skilled" mechanics aren't much better than enthusiasts like us that work on our own cars. They are just quicker as they the right tools and work on cars everyday, but I'd argue you'll get better quality DIY'ing it.

Check terminals in the weatherpack connectors... With the ever so little amount of slack in the wiring harnesses they provide, having something pull out isn't an uncommon item.

For the audience here, here is what I am referring to... This is a P0136 a customer had and what I pulled up from SI because I am a disposable mechanic, but I wanted to make sure I got it right the first time. I will highlight ALL areas GM says to check connections, check voltages, check resistances, etc against "specified values" (that they GIVE you). They spell everything out for you.

Thank you,
Disposable Mechanic.

I'm not sure what the techs make hourly, but I just took my Wife's Edge in for warranty work and the mechanical rate that the dealership charged was $125 an hour. That seemed steep to me and I am sure that they will raise it higher after the strike clears because as always the consumer gets screwed.

$125/hr labor rate and the union mechanic is getting $46/hr all in?! So the dealer is making $79/hr PROFIT on each hour worked.

Who is getting screwed again? Lol

I think we're $106/hr, not union but definitely compared in wages if not higher

I only go into dealerships for warranty work or recalls, but my dad has a Lexus and previously German cars and the labor rates were much higher. I agree that it's a rip off and why I tend to DIY or take it to an independent.

While Chevy or a lesser brand may be 130 or so, for the same vehicle. I.E. Chevy traverse vs GMC Acadia. Same vehicle 2 very different labor rates

It's all a rip off
Yes, indeed it is. It also seems for the Volts the labor rate is higher too, especially when a Volt tech has to come out for a specific issue.

Lol, this is America and not mother Russia. Start your own business.

The dealership has overhead and significant risk. What risk does the union have? The profit is after you figure in all expenses, so it's not $79 an hour.
