3800 installed poly mounts tonight...

wow what a difference. stock mounts were all mushy and 87k old. lots of cabin noise and vibration, but man it really stiffened everything up! shifts a lot firmer, and the motor barely moves at all now. ill post some pics in a difference thread.

did you just do the lower mounts? or both upper and lower????

by doing the lower....shouldnt be that bad of a vibration....try solid upper and lower. you get a nice back massage.

Theres numerous people on here who have been using steel mounts...for the whole 5 years Ive been around..and were using em before I even got my GP. I cant recall one person ever cracing a block...

why would someone want steel? the poly ones i have are VERY stiff, seems like anything stiffer would put way too much stress on the drivetrain as a whole...

driving is fine...the only difference is idle and low low speed less than 5mph vibration.

nah, 305/350/383/400/427's it's very possible for a 3800 to crank it's not spechial in any sense.. the blocks crack from engine harmonics which causes the steel to fatigue where the mount meets the block over time.

you have to be pushing enough power to stress the block tho say 420hp/500ft lb

you could argue that's its kind of relative since the block will eventually give way once a certain power level is achived but solid mounts lower that threshold.

i have a set of custom steel ones on the drag car... i can only assume they will be a bitch to ride in.....but arent we slowly turning our cars into total drag cars anyways....you are expected to give up some luxuarys

no its not...that would be around 320 to the wheels right? im looking to get about 325 when its all said and done...maybe more...i mean a cammed, ic'd, stalled car with proper tuning should make that kind of power easily (i dont mean to use easily, but you know what i mean) plus you with the turbo...wouldnt take too much more, if you're not there already.

So yeah, back to the mounts for a min.. I have had them since I had to replace my motor and I have to say they work perfect.. The motor bearly moves and it does shift very nice.. BUT I do feel every bump... EVERY ONE....

I would get the msp poly mounts they're made of a softer poly then most my car only vibrates a little more and you only notice it if you're at a dead stop

420 whp on a GP? Arnt to many around or ones that can take that much power that long.


Ive had the SNM steel ones since the came around......no problems whatsoever.

i never said 420 whp...thats crazy power...420 at the crank is more than reachable for the average (if u call it average) ic'd, cammed, m90 car, or very reachable with a CT or other turbo'd car
