That is the height of the sidewall..

The lower the number you go like 40 or 35 is the smaller the profile the tire you have. I would not go anything less than a 45 cause I think a few guys on here have 40's and they say that there is not enough sidewall in case you hit a pot-hole or something...

The 245 is the how wide the tire is...

I have 18's on my car. I am running 235/50/18 on 18x7.5 with a 35mm offset. This tire size will give you a little bit taller side wall height than with 245/45/18 that everyone uses. The ride height is stock, for now. I have had a minor rubbing issue with the right front tire, but it was resolved quickly.

All of the pics that I tried to post came out really small. If you want to see some pics, click on the link in my sig. Also on the cardomain site is a pic of where the right tire was rubbing. HTH

that's even better! since your tire rub a little i don't think i want to trim any part off my car. my is an 02 coupe i don't know if it will cause any other problem cause of the year model. i like the thick side wall you have on yours. do they make other size that is between 245-45-18 and 235-50-18? maybe something like 240-50-18 or 245-50-18?

If you like the size of the wheel and tire combo I have, don't let the trimming scare you. The piece that I had to trim off my car was very small and insignificant, just a piece of plastic, nothing detrimental to the car. It was about the size of the half of my thumb. It took about 2 min to get rid of. Since I did that there has been no problems with rubbing. There is no fender rubbing issues either since I am still at stock ride height. If you do this and want to drop the car later, then rubbing on the fender might become an issue...but outside of that, no problem.

I'm sure they make other sizes but the two above sizes are the best fit.
