Small dog for people allergic to dogs??

Got miniature schnauzers for that purpose, they don't shed or anything like that which is great, but the downside is since it's hair instead of fur they need to be groomed.

I wouldn't get one unless you can keep it. Shame to get ride of a dog that has gotten attached to his family and then has to start over.

I'm not allergic to dogs, but I've grown up around Shih tzus. They don't shed. They have hair rather than fur. They are awesome dogs. They are generally friendly and great with kids.

The owner has two Shih Tzu's here at work, one is great and the other one is a total nutcase.

We have a Maltese/Poodle. .. Small, ours is 5 lbs most are a bit larger. Smarter than most breeds. Has hair so is hyper allegnic . Low cost to own, hair cut couple times a year. Very friendly and dosn't bark much.

Our pugs are the worst. They amount of hair that comes off them is ridiculous. And their short spikey hair embeds itself deep in the carpeting.

So we have a bearded dragon who is 8 and about to pass. It has been a great pet.

My daughter also fosters small animals until they are adopted. They stay in her room and she has to change her clothes if she sits in the cage and spends time with them. I go in and say hi every once in a while and then I go wash my hands. She has had guinea pigs and rabbits.

Just some thoughts for someone who is built like your son.

[MENTION=126]Dasfinc[/MENTION] is allergic to dogs and we have a German Shepard mix and a golden retriever mix, both who shed like crazy. He takes some kind of meds and he seems to do pretty well with both of them. Its just when I've forgotten to vacuum every few days that he has issues.

See if you have any family/friends that you can dog sit for for a few days to see how his allergies are with a dog being that close for an extended period of time.

My daughter had a bichon poodle and now a shih tzu poodle mix. Both hypoallergenic breeds. Paid 500 for the shihpoo.
