the rear end is probably on the way out. how loud is the whine?
if you end up buying it, make sure to keep an eye on the oil. the 4.7l is an oil burner, and it's not a forgiving engine if you do run it low

If you're 16 and do a lot of brake stands, your parents will think it has an issue with sticking calipers. Lol. Lots of brake dust on one rear wheel.

I got a 2000 right now thats a selectrac I-6 that i bought for 2500 and its been relatively problem free for almost a year. A couple things I would have done a little different is try to find one that came factory with a trailer hitch and having the upcountry package already on it. The ideal vehicle to find would be an 04 I-6 with a selectrac transfer case. One thing to watch out for especially in this state is make sure you checkout the gas tank skid plate to make sure there are is no rot on it. Another thing to try to find as well is one with a double cardon front driveshaft as well because with any of the repezza driveshafts they will fail relatively quickly with anything over 100k on them and especially if you decide to lift them. Also with an 02-04 grand cherokee you get the akebono calipers vs the teves/ats calipers.

Like stated above 4.0L is the way to go. 125,000 miles on mine and it's a beast. Just hate the rocker rust.
