It's really not that bad. If you have a garage it's even easier. With A/C you're cool within 5 minutes. Not the 20+ minutes it takes to warm up a car in the winter there. There is never any snow to clean. It rains maybe 10-15 days a year. The heat sucks, but this time of year makes it worth it.

Oh yes. Spent many months there in the middle of fucking nowhere over the course of 3 years training tampons. "We are not DHS or ICE. If you see people running through the desert, you are not to even look at them." during briefing. I'm sure the locals are just pleasant.

I was speaking more about the temperament of the area. I can do 0% humidity and hot all day.

I had no idea there was this much NEW residential construction happening in Chicago right now....

How in the hell do they plan on filling all these buildings (there are 3 in total going up, 2 more planned) with people flocking out of the state?

Kane is growing because it doesn't have the same taxes (or limits) as Cook and home prices are often lower as well.

rules are only created to be broken or abused. McHenry has certainly done a fantastic job of abusing the "tax cap" law that was put in place a long time ago to raise taxes as much as allowed without referendum. Only recently have they needed to slow their roll due to all the public attention they're getting.

I actually believe Rauner is moving in the right direction. But like you say, the likes of Madigan and Emanuel are shutting down all hope of progress.

Honestly, one reality we have to consider is IL going bankrupt and starting from the ground up to fix this.

Most people don't care whether pensions are underfunded. After all, retirement is far in the future. But if their income taxes are going to go up because state pensions are underfunded — that's another story.

One advantage Illinois has is that the state has a low individual income tax rate. But now some legislators want to raise it from 3.75 percent to a max of 9.75 percent. That would be the fourth highest individual income tax rate after California, Oregon and Minnesota.
If that happens, just wait and see how many people run.

Best thing for IL and the taxpayers would be for Madigan to get ill. He's the prime reason why nothing happens in this State. Rauner wants to fix stuff, but King Mike blocks it.

My dad is getting paranoid that they are going to tax his retirement investments. He's been reading a lot about IL legislators taxing retirement income as a fix for the fiscal mess. I told him to simply declare residency in FL.

Solid idea. But if its that easy, then count on them finding a method to capture those retirement dollars earned while working in IL regardless of where the retiree claims residence.

He's got residences in three States, so technically he can do it. He's really paranoid about IL fighting it though as he's heard from friends that they will look at your utilities, credit cards, etc. to try and establish the legitimacy of the residency change. Not sure if there's truth behind this, but it sounds like something the State of IL would do.

Absolutely. They do it for emissions now... why wouldn't they do it for the ability to tax your retirement $ if tickled their fancy?
