🥶 When is everybody putting on their snow tires?

I just took off my 3 season setup and put my Nexen Winguard Sport 2 from last year on my GTI today. 215/45/18 on the factory wheels. A set of 4 is under $400 shipped. I ran them last year, and they were decent. They are a budget snow tire, but perform middle of the pack in reviews, which for the Chicago burbs area is totally fine as they are still far better than an all-season in the snow. If I lived in a lake effect area or more rural location with more snowfall, I'd be willing to spend more for a better snow tire.

Finally got the tires on during a visit to replace the AC condenser that apparently had a leak. Also replaced the passenger side radiator that got stabbed during some off road action in the fall.

When I first drove away from the dealer I thought one of my windows was down. Tires are not super quiet but everyone says you don’t hear them after a couple weeks. Was surprised at how soft the tread compound is too. Now I want to go looking for some drifts to plow through but the roads are still dry...

New snows on the 2 today. Went one size higher on the aspect ratio. Plenty of clearance to the strut spring perch and wheel well liners. Goodyear Ultra Grip Winter. Nowhere near as much siping as the Michelin, Cooper, Continental, or Firestones before them. Looks like an A/T tire, we’ll see how they do soon enough.

$227 OTD @ Sam’s Club. Smoking price.

Curious how these perform for you, they look like AT’s more than snow tires.
