I yoinked the canoe out of the garage after work today to start working it. Trying to get it outfitted better for fishing.

put on my registration numbers and sticker, going to be trolling motor powered so I have to have them.

built a rod rest that wedges over the gunwales and tightens up with knobs. I’ve got a pile of these Delrin blocks left over fromsome cable tray I put in for high voltage wire. Been trying to find a use for them. Rod tips rest in the groove and rod butt rests on the yoke.

Trolling motor mount I built last year out of aluminum uni strut and a section of aluminum box tubing.

I’m going to mount the battery box in front of the bow seat to keep the boat trimmed well when I’m alone. The canoe bottom is v shaped obviously. Plan to fab up a sort of tray the battery can sit level too.

Final thing id like to do is mount another seat just forward of the rear one and 3” lower. Trim the canoe better to keep the bow down and more stable seated a bit lower too. It needs to be easily removed with minimal tools for when there’s 2 people in the canoe.

Found this on Pinterest a couple weeks ago, kind of my inspiration for what I want to make my canoe. Mine is bigger but same general idea.

Took the canoe out on the desplaines river today. May have a bum battery or worn out trolling motor. Made it about 3 miles upstream before it died. Battery still had 12.4v when I got home. I’ve got to get a load tester and see what’s up. I was hoping for about 5 miles of range.

my canoe trolling motor took a shit yesterday morning. It was my grandfather’s from probably 1990. I had it out last weekend it was making some noise. Yesterday, it worked for about 30 seconds and gave up the ghost. Bearings sounded rough. I’m assuming some water got in the case last the 30 year old seals and got to them.

I went immediately from the boat ramp to bass pro and bought the “top of the line” transom mount trolling motor.

$249 Minn Kota 45lbs thrust 36” shaft. It’s got a legit PWM speed controller in it instead of using resistors to dump power for speed control.
