I think Im going to stick with my 7700k and my 2080 super. They seem to be able to still run anything I want at 4k60. So what would be the point to upgrade at this point? I was thinking about dropping down to 1440p144, but I really like 4k. So I dont think Im going to do anything for now. Plus I have my laptop with the 2070 super and a 10750h, with a 300hz screen. That laptop runs everything I got like a raped ape. I think I should just wait and see what happens. If Nvidia had stock for the 3080, I would have bought one on launch minute.

Well boys, I finally got a 3080 from BB online. It popped instock for like 2 minutes a few weeks ago. I managed to get one and the order sat in limbo for a few days. And then today I get an email its being delivered tomorrow. Fuck Im excited. Its the FE card, so its probably worth $1500 right now to sell. But I cant bring myself to become one of those scalper assholes. I will post up when I get it in hand.

I have a r710 that I've been thinking of replacing with something a little more cost effective. This thing idles at 140 watts.
My Plex server idles at 160w right now, but more than 50% of that all the HD's in it combined! :). So not much I can do with it unless I can swap out for much higher density disks or SSDs.

Ok so the 3080 is insane. Modern warefare 4K fully maxed out even with ray tracing enabled, I’m getting over 100fps. It’s a amazeballs.

1. Switch to unraid
2. Spin down HDDs when not in use
3. ????
4. Profit (Literally) lol

Most consumer boards seem to Max around 32 or 64gb of ram

My peasant X470 goes to 128GB. :dunno: And when I say peasant X470, I mean it since from what Ive read after buying it, its barely able to be considered X470 over B450. LOL. (MSI Gaming Plus X470)

Un-raid wouldn't solve the power issue, and honestly I prefer ZFS over un-raid for its reliability. You cannot beat ZFS as a file system these days.

Spinning down drives increases wear & tear on them. It also only saves me about 40 watts when the array isn't doing something. It would take a decade to make up the difference in costs savings vs even 1 failed drive. So its just not worth the risk or the cost of a replacement drive.

There is soooooooooooo much back and forth about spin up/down vs letting them spin constantly.

Plus with unraid you might not even spin up a drive since its not a system like ZFS or even RAID so I could let a drive sit for weeks and not touch it except for one file. Plus I usually have it set to spin for a few hours and then power down instead of only minutes. *shrugs*

Well considering parking and unparking the arm is the most risky/likely part to fail of a platter hard drive...I wouldn't want it moving constantly.

But we are also probably talking single digit % difference in failure rates between the power cycling & constant spin.
