When I see indy cars and Nascars running E85, Ill say its better. Until then.........its cheap race gas.
its only drawback is ~30% more required so you wont see it in racing gasoline has the upper hand in the btu's per gallon, in terms of cheapness and octane e85 wins

btw some racing "gasolines" are closer to 20$ a gallon

I've heard the amount of ethanol can vary depending on station and even deliveries. That's why some tuners won't tune a car for e85. :dunno:

I'd probably run it if I could afford injectors

That's why us E85 leg humper, nut swiggers have ethanol testers. I get my E85 from the same pump at the same place. The ethanol levels have been consistent since mid-May. They will change back to E70-E75 around Oct/Nov.

I get exactly what you are saying. (I'll stay away from speaking lambda here to avoid confusing the newbs like HK.)

On E10, my base AFR was around 11.7 with a modified stock PE RPM vs Time table. On E85, my base was 11.9 with a slightly leaner PE RPM vs Time table. On my initial pull (street tune), I was at 346whp with 19* of timing. On my final pull with 359whp, I was at 11.5 base with 24* of timing.

The car made progressively more power with adding more fuel. :dunno: On the last two pulls, the pump was getting maxed out.

(more details are here: http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.a...age=1&key=&language=&tmode=&smode=&s=#5052270)

Interesting, are those wideband verified AFR numbers, or just commanded AFR numbers from the PCM file?

It's surprising, if those are wideband numbers, that you gained power fattening it up past high 11s AFR. Most of my dyno runs indicated that for my setup, on E10, low-mid 12s AFR made the most power. Perhaps E85 just likes a richer relative mix (aside from how much richer you need to run it to approach stoich).

Good stuff though, impressive numbers for a blower car :bigthumb:

And fish, what's the deal with hating E85?
F1 and Nascar will likely never use it, as both of those forms of racing depend heavily on fuel economy. They're not going to sacrifice energy density for higher octane, expense is no object to them.
E85 is only slightly more expensive per kJ, burns cleaner, is renewable and doesn't come from countries that want to blow us up, is readily available, and is substantially higher octane, allowing more power potential. How is that not better, in the collective opinion of a bunch of gearheads whose primary concern is power output? Seems that its' only drawback is the need for a substantially beefier fuel system to support it, which seems a small price to pay. :dunno:

LOL....I actually am one of the handful people on planet Earth that get along with Fish. He's ok in my book.

Me and TG are the shit. :jg:

Those Miller rotors are now in Wessels hands last I saw them.

The price for a fuel system for a 3800 isnt horrible. Pricing out a fuel system for a high HP car is redonkulous.

hell yeah it is, if you bought everything new the riv has 2500+$ in the fuel system, but it was built for methanol...a bit different animal than e85 :jg:
