Rolling Meadows fire

This is unbelieveable. Read the story, then this other lady's comment after.

Seventeen departments responded to an extra-alarm fire that collapsed part of the roof of a Rolling Meadows apartment building near the intersection of the Jane Addams Tollway and Illinois Route 53.

The fire broke out at a building in the Twelve Oaks apartment complex, 4708 Arbor Drive in the northwest suburb, about 3:30 p.m., and fire officials responded to an initial call indicating there was fire on the second and third floor of the building, said Rolling Meadows Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Massey.

The roof of at least one apartment collapsed, and at least six apartments were heavily affected by the fire. One person was injured and taken to an area hospital, Massey said.

Residents were evacuated from the building where the fire occurred, as well as another building next door, and were being temporarily housed in the complex's community center, said Rolling Meadows City Manager Sarah Phillips.

The three-story, 30-unit building, part of larger complex, is brick on its first two floors and wood on its top floor, and has wrought-iron balconies outside many of its windows. A balcony outside one apartment was bowing from the heat.

Thanks for your prayers. My son's apartment was destroyed in this fire. He lost all his things, but is alive - and that's what matters. Unbelievably his car started on fire on the way to work a couple of hours before this fire, and he lost that too.

yeah... my house is Northeast of that place on the otherside of the highway probably a mile away. My whole neighborhood was filled with smoke and it still smells like fire around my house. I wanted to get pictures but by the time I got off work, got home, and got my shit together the fire looked like it was out.

Its a good thing RMPD was at the fire and not down my street, I got safely into my garage with no issue.

my boss saw that fire from our office at 90 and roselle and thought from the location of the smoke, the new convention center was on fire. That fire was burning for a good couple hours with really heavy black smoke. Those apartments have a history of heavy crime, which the RMPD tried to counter by putting up concrete barriers in several places so you can only enter/exit from one entrance. They would constantly monitor who goes in and out. I wonder if those barriers became a problem trying to get all those crews in to fight the fire.

Another BULLSHIT project for the RMPD. Lets put barriers around the most crime infested area in RM, and have a cop at the entrance 24/7. That project probably did nothing but gain revenue from all the tickets they issued. The barriers have been removed I think the condo complex owner put up a fight. I don't see how the city can think they can control private property without the owners consent.
