Ok...currently I've got a kenwood cd player from 1996 in my car and its still running strong, just looking to upgrade without spending a fortune...

same thing with speakers...

I've got some 10 year old Kenwood 3-way 6x9's in my rear deck lid and one of them finally started to crackle somewhat.

So I"m just basically looking to upgrade without going crazy, I drive the car about every other weekend currently so don't need top of the line....

any recommendations or stuff to stay away from? At this point with my success with kenwood I'm kinda partial to them...but am open to suggestions

I just picked up an Alpine CDA9833 from Crutchfield for 299.00 regular price was 449.00. It has a built in high power amp so you wont really have to add an amp unless you want to get real loud. I ordered some Alpine speakers from onlinestereo.com 6 1/2" components for the front and 6x9's for the rear. 278.00 shipped. So for 577.00 you could have yourself a nice sounding system. Well I hope it's nice sounding since I havent installed it yet :) .

i have the pioneer deh-7600 i think. it's pretty nice. the only thing i don't like is that the display switches back and forth from black to turquoise and at night the turquoise can be extremely bright. but what kinda makes me kick myself is that now there are all new models of head units out. oh well i guess. i like pioneer head units, don't really know how their speakers are though.

Pioneer has some of THE most innovative head units around. For example, one has a function that times the speakers according to who is in the car. Meaning that if only you are in the car then the sound travels in sequential order starting from the rear passenger and ending at the front driver, therefore allowing the best possible surround sound available today.

Yea, Alpine has that also ;) :D They call it part of their "I-personalize" You tell them the size of the front and rear speakers, as well as the distance to the driver, or whoever (i don't know why you'd want anyone else to have the better sound) And after you put in all of your settings, you can burn it to a CD-R, put it in the stereo, and Bam, you're done. Really a nice feature!! I still haven't tried it yet though <_< Have you?!

I get the same affect when i drive with my head in the middle of my car :lolsign:
