funny... I had actually thought of this over a year ago.
the problem is not the burning of the wood, but the sealing of it (not from vacuum but coolant/oil) and warpage.
you could not get the wood dry enough so that it would not warp under the heating/cooling cycle of the engine. this cycle would also cause the wood to "sweat" any sap that is still in it. If you could dry the wood enough, it would probably split once any kid of pressure was applied to it.
you would also have to plug up ANY and ALL holes in the intake/blower that could possible flow coolant or oil. the wood would soak this up and act just like some of the old phenolic TB spacers and bleed that into the intake.
