VPN Folks, come on in

I'm looking to get a VPN and would like some recommendations from those of you with more knowledge on the subject.

I'd be using it for torrenting and watching videos from other countries that are restricted in the USA (BBC and Netflix mostly).

I was looking at privateinternetaccess.com or NordVPN.

I've been using StrongVPN to download torrents so I avoid the DCMA emails and it's solid. There's a local Chicago node too.

I use PIA and love it. They have servers all over the country and all over the world, it's always been fast and reliable. They have a nice iPhone app that I use when I'm on public wifi as well.

It's nice since PIA has servers in almost every major city in the world. It's a great tool.


Can't really comment on download speeds from it or anything since I just use it to access Web sites. It's more than fast enough for those.

PIA is plenty fast enough to download torrents or stream. Not that I would ever download torrents or illegally stream, but I've heard it is sufficient for doing these.

I get roughly 11 mb/s when connected to PIA. Sometimes a little faster

I had expressVPN for a time. It was fine, I never could figure out how to stream videos on Netflix with it...Netflix would recognize I was using it, and block content, I'm sure there was a workaround, but I didn't care enough to figure it out.

I just did a little testing of PIA:

356 down, 168 up through their Chicago server. 113 down, 20 up through their Switzerland server. I have symmetrical gigabit internet service for comparison's sake.

These are the two I use the most. Chicago for general browsing, Switzerland for streaming stuff.

Nord is one of the ones that is highly recommended always too. So you have a good one I am sure
