Neither of the fire defense ideas will work. I did industrial/commercial deicing work with my business for years and winter ice is a lot tougher to melt than people think. On my jobs, I used pressurized hot water to carve blocks of ice out which works MUCH better than melting with fire (I have tried both) and even that method would not have a chance of saving this house unless you were using a dozen machines continually for as long as the ice continued advancing. You'd need one guy on each machine and one or two guys per machine carting the blocks away. Even then, the deicing might not keep up. Nature is a tough mother.
