His $36,000 mistake ruined my Saturday *56k*

I got a call a few hours ago that a guy ran into the nearby jetties with his boat and they need me to pull it out (I'm the only one on base qualified to operate our lift ).

This is the initial point of impact. You can see another gash a little closer to the strap.

That's crazy. Is the boat a total loss?

I doubt it. We pulled it out so that it wouldn't sink, but we can't take responsibility for it. Commercial salvage helped the guy keep it afloat until I arrived, he's going to work with them to see if they'll repair it tonight or wait until tomorrow.

Hopefully this makes it onto our new show.

If I had to guess I'd think it is a flesh wound. A bit of love with a chop gun and some resin would probably clean it up if the structure was okay. Maybe a bit of cutting work because of the of the cracking up top, but that may just stay there and get reinforced from behind.
