It will get more sound clarity without the waterproof cover but it's for low speeds. The cover will mute the sound but you'll have less wind noise.

They actually have MPH recommendations as far as cover and sound.

I thought the waterproof one was actually bad for the mic? Or so said the instructions...Or do I have that reversed. Im using the one with the two oval holes open.

thats exactly the cover that was on for this video..
actually i just rear the manual for this camera, and it said its only good til 100mph...and if you put the waterproof/sealed cover on its better for sound @ 100mph+

if stuff is low the gopro will amplify it; so with a micover thing it will still amplify wind of that's all it can hear.

i made a super ghettorigged version of a micover and put it on my door mounted gopro. it is not bad; breaks up the wind and amplifies tire/engine because it is closer. audio from second camera.
