oil in auto trans?

I checked the auto trans fluid level in an eclipse today and it had what looked like motor oil in it. It was a golden brown color, it did not smell like burnt trans fluid, and was too thin to be gear lube. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Will it cause damage to the trans?

Take a few drops and put it on a clean peice of good paper towel (quilted northern or the like) wait 30 seconds or so and see if it spreads out, so long as it is redish to light brown and it spreads out 4x the original size or more it should still be good. if it is dark brown and does not spread out very much is it time for a change, do a full filter and flush!

I'm absolutely sure this was motor oil in the trans though. my question is that if I filled an automatic transmission with 5w30 and drove around for a few thousand miles, would this damage it?

its called varnish, flush that crap out and hope the trans doesnt start to slip
