I added another 33,000 to the Corolla and I was out of work from mid Jan to Easter! (I usualy add about 40K a year.) After owning the Regal for 10 years, we finally broke 100,000. After 15 years, we finally broke 55,000 on the Camaro and the truck, I think I cleared 6000 miles on the rebuild from 06'. I think we only put about 1000 miles each on the Camaro and truck.

"Affording" to do so isn't exactly as it may seem. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. I just save and save as much as I can ... and I use what I can for my road trips. For me, it's more like "how can I afford NOT to?" I literally would go nuts (some say I already am...lol) without my road trips. If I could road trip 24/7/365, I would. NO doubt about it.

Route 66 is a road trip I suggest EVERYONE do at some point in their life. I don't care whether or not people are "road trip" people ... it is a definite "must do" in my book. You learn so much about the US in general ... as well as people.

*shrugs*

Then again ... virtually all of my road trips are to meet family and friends ... and meet new people ... in some aspect. I wouldn't have it any other way.

However ... I'd say you have no reason to envy me. Sadly, my life isn't all cars and road trips, as much as I'd love for that to be the case...lol.

Since I'm not "geared" toward the wrenchin' aspect of vehicles ... most people discount me as an enthusiast at all. While I can see their view, I don't exactly agree with them. Just because I'm not into the mechanical aspects of a car doesn't mean I'm not into cars. Heck, some of those that discount me as an enthusiast cannot tell the difference between a 1973 and 1974 Monte Carlo ... but I can. Assuming no changed parts, if you show me a 1970-1982 Monte Carlo, I can tell you what year it is with no problem.

lol...yes.

1979 ... 350 V8, no OD trans
1981 ... 3.8 V6, no OD trans
1987 ... 305 V8, OD trans

And, yes, most of the driving on the MCs could be considered "highway", at least in terms of being out on country roads with much less traffic than in town Elgin or elsewhere.
