even if it is a new filter? You'd think that if it works one way, it works the other way too.

Some aftermarket filters like Aeromotive don't work right backwards.

The pleats on some filters are only captured on one side...so if yours is just such a filter, the pleats will expand out, leaving no filtering...or better yet, will eventually block the output.

It happened to me when experimenting with different filters, and one got blocked and would stall the car every so often. Took forever to diagnose that one!

Bob always puts our fuel filters on backwards and nothing has happened. Then again you can see through it
