Advice on a 99 turbo diesel beetle

My dad has been looking for a dd so he doesn't have to drive his 2500 around and get 13mpg everyday.
Today we drove by a local dealer and found a 99 Turbo 4cyl Diesel beetle
5 speed with 115k miles on it. power everything has some american racing wheels on it with good tires. Haven't got a chance to test drive it yet because it needs a new battery and he's going to call us back when it gets one in it later.
The MAF was just replaced.
They're asking 5100 but I think we can get them down to 4500.
Seem like a good deal? Or are there some bad things with the beetles that I need to be weary of?

I can't add anything about the drivetrain but even Richard Simmons wouldn't drive a new Beetle! I think the only people left driving those cars are lesbian dog trainers with mullets.

My uncle had a simliar year Golf TDI.

a family friend has one.
had small issues here and there (one of them being the MAF sensor), but the engine is a noisy fucker that cant merge into traffic to save it's life!
