car AC problem-Nissan Xterra?

My wifes 05 NIssan xterras AC has been really funny latley. The fans will only turn on if you VERY carefully turn it the 2.5 setting. Anything below or above that mark and the fans stop blowing and nothing happens.

When you do set it at 2.5, the air is cold. I do hear blend air doors opening and closing. Anyone good at AC around here?

That would sound more like the HVAC controls IMO. Could be wrong, but might wanna check there. If it was blowing no cold air, I would lay the blame more on the AC itself.

Yeah it does sound like the control itself. But I guess the unit itself may not be getting a strong enough signal along the lines. thats a tough one. I would look at the hvac system under the hood first for loose or frayed or coroded wires. Always look for the easy fix first then start getting more and more in dept. Sorry couldn't be more help

I had the same symptoms on my Ford Taurus and it was the resistor.

$50 on rock auto for the part
