:dunno: probably the same reason they stop making any car thats not a deathtrap. probably just wasnt "economically viable" to continue production of that model. It only had a real small niche that it fit in, however well it did in fact fit that niche, car companys don't consider that aspect when deciding to continue producing a car

But now we have cars that are just as fast, or faster, for cheaper.

not so much import-wise.

the 350Z wasnt faster than the 300Zx Twin turbo, the 370Z is just as fast. Yet both these cars are still in the 30K bracket.

Toyota dropped all sports cars, so no successor to the supra (yet)

Mazda built the RX8, but due to new emission regulations, they had to move the exhaust ports from the bottom to the side (causing reliability issues) and keep in N/A. The RX8 is about .5 seconds slower on the 1/4 mile with only 159 lbs of torque in comparison to an FD RX7 Twin turbo.

Mitsubishi still has the eclipse, but it is gay (no offense to anyone). The GSX was the best (IMHO) of eclipses. The new V6 eclipse is barely a match for the AWD GSX.

All in all, emissions is messing with the japanease sports cars a bit. There still producing sports cars, but they arent as raw sport as the 90's.

The Supra was an awesome car for its time-but by 1997 it was friggin $40,000 ,and at that price it didn't find too many takers.Off the top of my head that's like paying $70,000 for a Supra today-its a sweet car,but that's a lot of bread unless you stole or won it.

I was wrong about the money, but $53000 is still pretty stiff for a car of that performance stock today.

true, but in the 90's that performance was considered "better performance" than in comparison to today's standards.

The supra twin turbo was just as fast as the C4 corvette which was roughly the same price. However, it was a Toyota rather than a Corvette.
