4Runner or FJ Cruiser?

Finally time to move on from a '96 Range Rover. Kinda picky about the 4Runner style changes over the last 12 or so years, but I love what you can get for the $. I've got a family dealer connection, so I stopped by to check out an FJ on a whim (dealer tax sucks!). Kinda crazy claustrophobic sitting in there, but it's a nice looking Tonka truck.

Anyone ever own both and can compare? I've been a Range Rover and Grand Cherokee owner myself.

an ex gf had an fj, i loved it. it visibility wise can suck and be ready tobuy windshields cuz they chip if you look at them wrong...

i love the nweer 4 runners...

The FJ is one of the highest resale value vehicles on the market. You might want to look at the 4runners.

My brother owned one and did VERY WELL on resale.

Though honestly you cannot go wrong either way, I also enjoy 4runners

Yeah, I guess this puts buyers at a disadvantage. Really gotta hunt for a "bargain." Also noticed the earlier ones take premium gas. Lame.

i dont know if the resale thing is a disadvantage or not... because you could almost argue that when you do go to get rid of it, it will still be worth something. especially since they are no longer made.

To me 4Runner>FJ. Seems like the 4Runner would be more practical everyday, but can't ignore the resale of the FJ

Resale value on Toyota SUV's seems really high in general. The Land Cruiser holds it's value pretty well too, from I've seen

It's hard for me to fathom spending $80K+ on a Toyota SUV. I know they're supposedly well built and are about as capable off-road as anything on sale today, but it's still a Toyota that shares it's nameplate with the Yaris

except the land cruiser will last 500k miles and not have to have anything replaced. and the range rover won't see outside of the repair shop.

good point....although I question the newer Land Cruisers reliability. The mid to early 90's were unfuckwithable, but especially since the market crash and tsunami, Toyota's quality and reliability have been horseshit.

i think the 2000's were pretty bulletproof as well.

Yeah, I'd say anything up to about 2006 would be solid, but anything after I'd be wary of

You'll spend that kind of money on a Range Rover. Then you'll spend it again on servicing the Range Rover

Most, if not all of the Japanese manufacturers were struggling during the 2008 economic downturn. Honda and Toyota showed pretty marked decreases in initial quality ratings and extended reliability ratings. Then the tsunami hit, and it just got worse. The country was in shambles, and their manufacturing was hit really hard. Take a look at some articles that were written during that time, as I remember, that whole thing was pretty well documented.
