I've tuned them over 800HP and the motor has gave before the trans!

That's debatable.
From my research, they can be real finicky to tune and the earlier years (up to 09) had some issues with the pumps. I've seen N/A C6 guys blow them up...but I know some people like Shane and Lead Pipe have had some good success with them too.
