Tires that run narrow (My Summer Tire Search)

I am looking for what brand and or style of tires run narrow. I know a lot of people throw out Nitto and Toyo. What else and is this exclusive to certain models?

Sizes I am looking for are 235/40/18 and 275/35/18

These will be mounted on 8.5" with a 40 offset for the front and 9.5" with a 45 offset in the rear.

I am going to be putting new tires on the GTO (which is slightly lowered) and space is at a premium so I am hunting for good tires that have rounded shoulders and a narrower than average tread width. The backup plan is go to with a 265 if I cannot find a 275 that works.

What is rubbing if you can't fit a wide 275?

Seems like a stickier 265 would be better then a narrower not as sticky 275.

With the wide variation in sizes I have seen I am also thinking a fat 265 could be a problem.

I don't need the stickiest tire in the world, but I definitely don't want a passenger tire. Should be good in the wet and an all season isn't out of the question either.

Nitto 555's run narrow, while the NT05's do not. Toyo R888's do not run narrow either.

He used to run, I believe, a stock height suspension... and 17" stock wheels do make a bit of a difference. They have a few mm of different offset.

I thought about jumping up to a 275 the last time I got tires for my gto, but I stuck w/ the tried to true 265. Im actually slightly raised in the back so i dont think rubbing would be an issue, but honestly I dont have any need for anything bigger than a 265 out back. Like I said in the other thread the hankooks have been plenty good to me in the traction department.

same as you. 235/40/18. Not sure what the width and offset of my rims are tho...never bothered to look them up. But 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 is what the previous owner ran with so i just stuck w/ it.

Are your fender lips modified?

Not to my knowledge. I certainly haven't touched them. haha. I have pedders 3/8" drop springs on the front and pedders 0 drop springs in the rear. Always kinda liked the rake look and dont need to overly worry about big speed bumps or parking curbs.

Go 265 and trim to fit if needed.

My tires on the 20's run narrow. They are General G-Max AS03 tires and I would not recommend them

Bummer, I was looking at those instead of a dedicated summer tire since weather can be tricky here.

Fenders are triple layer and thicker in one section. Basically guaranteed to crack the paint. Most people grind or trim them.

Now I have to get the wheels refinished. Hopefully have them mounted by next weekend.
