Jeep cherokee's and towing

I assume a jeep could tow a decent amount, would it pull say 3k lbs it's just going to be like 15-20 mile trips, I think I'm going to sell my trailblazer but want to be able to still pull my trailer around, the jeep also has a 3 or 4 inch lift and some off road type bfg's on it

I6? 5k if properly equipped. Obviously the lift and tire size could reduce the rating.

I towed a 5x10 trailer packed to the brim and stuff inside with my Cherokee on stock junk ass suspension and a 28" tire.

You should be fine.

Does it have the towing package? That is the big part of the equation. 2k without, and 5k with.

Always tow in 3rd with the XJ.

Tow package (requires auto) adds a tranny cooler, hitch, and wiring. You also need a weight distributing hitch to tow 5k.

The other variable is the rear end gear:

3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission
3.31 - only available on older (pre87?) 2 door XJs with "Fuel Economy" package
3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission
3.73 - found in some XJs with the towing package
4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually, and older XJs with the "Off-Highway Vehicle" package.
4.56 - rare but can be found on some older (~ 89 ~) models with 2.5L engine and auto transmission

I'd do it. Just watch your temps & test out the brakes somewhere less populated. Jeep brakes suck.

I think cherokees can tow like 4500 or something, 3K shouldn't be a problem.

I only have to tow my trailer once to move my mom and I'm selling it after that I have someone that's buying it the next day so it really won't be an issue
