The interest was definitely there back then. In the 70s my dad was part of a Corvette club with his 74 that had road course as well as drag strip track days. I believe one of the events was at an old go kart track where they ran Vettes. When you're only making 190-hp, I guess it was more fun to drive on a kart track than dragstrip.
