It's been around since the 50s. It barley if at all improves the tires flexibility and heat distribution. Mostly it is a profit gimmick. Like I said before if the snow really means that much for traction purchase snow tires
I'm no expert but I can't imagine a 30% tread life remaining tire is going to see that much of an improvement from this service... Can't you buy some off brand rubber to make it through the season?
