How do I get a title for a car?

A buddy of mine lost the title to his navigator and wants to sell the truck soon. He wants to get it replaced before selling. Who does he call or talk to for a new one? Or what should be done if he can't get a title. Thanks guy

Your Illinois vehicle title proves that you own your vehicle, and you'll need this document should you ever wish to sell the car. If your title has been lost, stolen, or damaged, you may apply for a duplicate from the Illinois Secretary of State.

To apply, complete Form VSD-190, available only at your local Secretary of State office. Be sure to bring identification and your registration certificate.

Submit your application in person at your Secretary of State office or by mail to:

Fees
A duplicate title costs $95. This fee does not include any registration fees or taxes that may be due when you apply.

Just wen through this with the Camaro I was parting out. It cost $95 like said above and it takes a little over a month to get it.

They can expedite the title next day for an additional fee - I think it was $30. I did that with my GTO when the bank lost the title.

I'm pretty sure my Mustang title got lost in the move from my old place to my current place. But I didn't plan on selling it anytime real soon, so I should be fine.

There's another way you can do it that dasfinc told me but I sent remember all the details. You pretty much sign the car to the new owner and they pay for the title, then they have to pay to transfer it.

I'd do it soon before Illinois raises the cost like they always seem to do
