Real Basic Question

So I'm one of the most non-mechanically inclined people ever. With that said, somethings up with my heat/ac. When I turn it on and step on the gas (either lightly or heavily), it sounds like a supercharger whining up.

Definitely gonna bring it in but am i looking at hoses, needing a new fan, etc...? Its on a 3400 Grand Am.

Because as soon as I flip off the air, the sound disappears and everything sounds normal again.

True. However, without an actual supercharger, its just a tease.

Or the belt is getting old and slipping when it is being forced to drive the AC... When was the last time you had the belts inspected/replaced? I'd try the $20 fix before you try the $300+ fix, Just my .02

Any a/c pump I've ever heard "whined" while engaged. Dunno if that's normal..normal to me . Lol

I would also check the PS fluid. It might be a little low and when you turn on the HVAC you draw incoming air from the cowl area. And it might be taking the sound with it....
