"All Camaro ZL1 models produced to date are currently being held by General Motors for a quality assessment. At this moment, the duration of the hold is undetermined, and may last a few more weeks."

This is not the type of letter a dealership likes to get, especially not when the car in question is one capable of generating a significant amount of way-over-MSRP-profit consumer interest. But, this is text from the exact letter that dealers anticipating new ZL1 Camaros have received from GM's Director of Chevy Small Cars, Small Utilities and Performance Cars Marketing, Russell M. Clark.

The letter, obtained by GM Inside News, doesn't specify what the reason is for the quality assessment, but it's serious enough that they've stopped production and stopped taking orders for the ZL1. No word or rumor as to what the issue is. Got a guess?

Read the entire letter after the jump.

Update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 Shipments and DOSP

The purpose of this note is to provide you with an update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 production and vehicle shipment plans.

All Camaro ZL1 models produced to date are currently being held by General Motors for a quality assessment. At this moment, the duration of the hold is undetermined, and may last a few more weeks. As soon as the hold is cleared, a note will be sent to all dealers to advise that 2012 Camaro ZL1 shipments are underway.

Because of the hold, the upcoming Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle that was to be dedicated to ZL1 is being postponed. This DOSP cycle was scheduled to start this Thursday, March 1, 2012, and continues through Tuesday, March 6, 2012. A new date for this DOSP cycle will be provided in the near future.

We regret to have to undertake these actions, especially given the high anticipation for the new Camaro ZL1. We ask for your patience and will continue to keep you posted on any developments regarding production and vehicle shipments from Oshawa.

Sincerely,

Russell M. Clark

Director – Chevrolet Small Cars, Small Utilities and

Performance Cars Marketing

That's what they're accomplishing here... There's always glitches to sort out, glad they're taking the time to do so off the bat.

Let's put it this way... in 1991-92 Galant VR4's were more expensive than a new Corvette in 91-92, and you DON'T want' an early or super late model run from either year. With new tech for the first time in said chassis, I wouldn't expect much less.
