📰 Auto News Chrysler SRT8 models to boast 570-hp supercharged option for 2012?

If 470 horsepower is fun, 570 raging stallions can be positively evil. Rumor has it that Chrysler thinks so too, and the automaker plans to unveil an optional tier of SRT vehicles with upgraded powerplants. Later in the year, the Dodge Charger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 will reportedly be available with an Eaton-sourced supercharger that will up output to somewhere in the 540-570-horsepower range.

The option (which could possibly come in kit form to be installed at the dealer) will be offered on 2013 model year cars, and, if the rumor holds true, it comes with another upgraded feature to help meter out the extra go-fast energy. Chrysler will fit the four door sports cars with an eight-speed automatic transmission. We sure hope this all pans out.

Currently, this super extra only applies to the SRT vehicles riding on the LX platform. That means the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 isn't slated to get the upgrade. The Dodge Challenger rides on a modified LX platform known as the LC, but rumor has it the power boost will be available for that model as well.

Hopefully this means beastly strong engines and a huge aftermarket for F/I on these things. No reason you couldn't bolt on 800whp if they do things right.

It sounds to me like it will be an added option, no diff than going and buying an aftermarket sc.
Benefit...covered under factory warranty
Neg...dealer upcharge for a blower kit
I guess we will have to see how much this option costs compared to the aftermarket.

z06/zr1 is high hp and gets great hwy mpg, due to it's low drag , good gearing and usable torque.

That would be pretty awesome, especially after aftermarket parts start hitting the market. With a few bolt-ons you could be pushing 650 hp easily.

haha, I should have rephrased with Chysler 300 + 600 hp = no economy.


Comparing a fiberglass vette and a 4500 lbs 300 srt8 is apples and oranges even if both were to make 600 hp obviously.

my AWD TBSS got 21-23 on the highway - i dont think it would be hard for an 600hp 8speed car to get mid 20s on the higway...

if it is dealer installed, hopefully they would only have the guys who are trained to work on the viper install the kit.

i worked for a chrysler dealer and 3-4 of the techs were really good and 3-4 of them were hacks......and i mean HACKS

That’s unverified at this point. Chrysler had nowhere to go but up. They were at rock bottom.

Chrysler has to prove that they are building a quality & reliable product. They’ve made some big strides but they still have large gaps in their lineup

You sure those MPGs are accurate?? My AWD TBSS (and all others) gets 14/15mpg all day long including highway driving. Maybe you had an LT model.
