World Rally Champion Colin McRae took advantage of this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. to officially unveil his self-titled McRae R4, a planned production rally car for the street.
The R4 is tipped to be a hot entrant for a variety of motorsports, including rallying, road courses, and ice racing. In an interview with The Sun, McRae said that the idea behind the R4 was to create a fun, competitive race car that’s (relatively) economical to run.
In its current prototype guise, the R4 has been fitted with a 2.5-liter normally-aspirated inline-four, producing in the neighborhood of 300 brake horsepower.
McRae’s racer—reportedly the first Scottish-built and designed car in more than a century—is expected to make its competition debut this autumn, with the first production cars hitting streets and circuits toward the end of next year.
