i'm betting the fuckers scheduled it to try to keep us away...i'm going into work early, hopefully i'll see some of ya there, you can car pool with me but it'll cost ya lol j/k

got there if you can!

Greetings racers & fans!

This is a very important notice from the GLD ownership group to all our loyal racers and fans of the Legendary Great Lakes Dragaway.

As you know, Great Lakes Dragaway is one of the oldest continuously operating dragstrips on the face of the planet.
For over 50 years we have been here, open more dates than any other track in the USA, including those in warm weather locations.

Now some folks want to try to limit our operations and limit YOUR ability to take part in the sport you love!

There will be a meeting on Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 at 6:00PM, held at the Town Hall for the Town of Paris located at 16607 Burlington Rd, Union Grove, WI. This meeting will be in regards to a study of noise and light pollution alleged to emanate from Great Lakes Dragaway. If you can possibly make it to this meeting, we would GREATLY appreciate it! We need as many fans of GLD as possible. We are sorry for the short notice, as the town scheduled this meeting with very little advance notice. Tell EVERYONE you know who is either a racer or a fan of the sport! This is VERY important and we need your support!!

We are not looking for people to be unruly or loud, we are looking for people to show SUPPORT for our facility and our sport. If you can make this meeting, PLEASE attend! WE NEED YOU!

The ownership and staff also would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed and joyous Holiday Season. We look forward to seeing you all in spring.

That sucks, I hope GLD does not turnout like byron (weekends only), the track was in the area first!

I hope so too. The basic problem is people are complete idiots. The same thing happens around airports. O'hare airport was all by itself in the middle of "nowhere" when it was built. Slowly, over time people built houses around it, and then they complain about the noise from the airport that was there before they moved in.

"Dear Mr. Holloway,

I am contacting you in regards to the meeting scheduled for 6PM on Tuesday, December 15th 2009 at the Town Hall for the Town of Paris. If you received this in error please forward it to whom it may concern or reply with the contact information of the person(s) responsible for organizing and/or initiating this meeting.

I understand that the discussion will concern a proposed study of noise and light pollution alleged to emanate from Great Lakes Dragaway. I am a motorsports enthusiast and participant, and frequent spectator and racer to the events held at Great Lakes Dragaway during the limited season we have in our area. Myself, my friends, coworkers, and many others go to the track and not only spend money there but also in the surrounding area for gas, food, lodging, etc.

If the track isn't open, we'll be forced to go elsewhere. Any reduction in operating hours will not only effect the track but also local businesses. I hope you keep this in consideration when making your decisions on the fate of the track's schedule. Thank you for your time and I wish you a happy holiday season."

thats like people that move to the river by my house, and then complain about the noise from the boats.

Maybe it's because I've never lived on the water, but I LOVE the sound of the boats going by. When we have parties at my uncle's place, I can just sit outside and listen/watch the boats cruising by all day.

I sent an email to randy at GLD of a point to present to the town leaders. They reduce their hours of operations, they reduce the value of the property. Lower value property means less property tax revenue for the local town/jurisdiction. Why would a town do that in this economy when most local jurisdictions are struggling to make payments and bills...?

I told him to contact me if he needs more info to present and if worse comes to worse, GLD can contact our company to hopefully then lower their tax bill by 50% then...

I reall hope they don't limit their hours of operation...

from a mustang forum:

I asked if I could audio record, they said no, so I sat a camcorder on my leg and recorded the hour plus meeting. I am sure they are pleased. Was a very large file I boiled down to 123mb WMV file.

Not much to watch after the slides, just more for listening.

Meeting came down to them saying that yes, it is loud around GLD. No shit. They discuss the montoring from 4 locations around GLD, one being a pole 25 feet in the air where noise levels were high but of course those chose LABOR DAY WEEKEND to test this. Probably the loudest day of the year there. Plus, prevailing winds made it easier for the sounds to make it to the monitors. No decisions made. Place was PACKED with people.

Anyway, watch, listen, discuss.
