About 8 years ago, I had the distinct pleasure of watching someone sit on the fender of my '81 MC SC ... uninvited ... at a local S Elgin cruise night. I slowly made my way back to my car ... and just stood there ... watching him ... wondering how long he was planning to plant his rear end on my car's fender. I didn't wait too long; his buddy suddenly noticed that I was staring at them ... and motioned for him to move. He looked back at me, shrugged and walked away. I didn't say a word, though when I saw him leave in a spotless older (late 1960s early 1970s as I recall) Dodge, I wish I had. You really think I'd have survived unscathed had I sat on HIS car?

Now, sure ... my '81 MC SC (like all of my Monte Carlos) is FAR from perfect ... so a new scratch on an already-scratched fender is NOT a big deal. And, given the shape of the paint on it and my other MCs, I suppose I shouldn't be all that concerned...or complain too much. However, it is the principle. Too many times, people disrespect other peoples' property ... without a thought.

Something similar happened just this past late April. I walked out of work one afternoon, to find a car parked next to mine with a flat tire. As I walked up to my 87 MC LS/CL, I calmly took note that the people changing the tire were very close to my car. Then, as I walked past the front to the driver's door, I noticed a guy put his wallet on the hood of my car ... gliding it over the hood as he reached into it. I opened the door ... watching him as he left the wallet on the hood of my car. The girl with him happened to notice my stare ... and motioned for him to remove his wallet. He did ... and actually apologized, saying, "Oh, sorry, sir." I just nodded...and then shook my head as I got into my car.

Then, the first Monday in May, I came out of my doctor's office ... to find a center cap on my '87 MC LS/CL's honeycomb/checkerboard wheels missing. All 4 were on the car when I went in for my appointment, but only 3 were left when I got back to the car. The one missing ... driver's side front....

Maybe it's just me ... but I treat everyone else's car, whether I like it or not, as if it were my own. I don't lean on them, I don't sit on them, I don't even TOUCH them ... unless told it is OK. Why others don't have a similar mentality ... especially car enthusiasts ... I do not understand. In some ways, I don't even understand non-car enthusiasts not understanding this concept....

*sighs*

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Happens all the time, when I park my car at work. Parents let there kids run up to it touch it, blow faces into it (reflective) etc. And it pisses me off same thing when I park at places I park way away from people and always get the shithead who parks right on my door.
It never fails people have no respect any more.

some little mexi fucker was sitting on the hood of my vette one time at the crystal lake car show... i walked up to him and said "nice car man" and he was like oh its not mine... so i was like oh yea thats right... thats my car! i then grabbed him by his greasy mexi hair and pulled him off and threw him on the ground. then i went and got a cop and told him he had drugs in his pocket.

i work on cars everyday and i dont even touch the paint if i can help it. i close hoods and trunks by grabbing them from the inside if possible and close doors by pushing my finger in the keyhole just to avoid touching the paint. i cant understand hod somebody could be so ignorant as to use somebodys car that they dont know as a chair!

i avoid contact with paint as much as possible, and when i need to go inside the car i wash my hands. no matter what kind of car i'm working on, i'm always respectful.

+1 on everything there.

you would not believe how my car looks after I get it back from the shop whenever they do things. Grease on the steering wheel, shifter, seats, door panels, paint on almost every panel of the car, new scratches, dings, etcetera. The interior still smelled like motor oil or something of the like since the trans rebuild in february.

maybe if it's bad this time around i will take pictures.

i can definitely see the disrespect thing, though. . i was in vocational school back in junior/senior years in high school. as moooost of you know i had a nice , nice black suburban. i had just finished having a friend of mine buff out the panels on my truck and i was across the shop thanking him and giving him a few bucks since it's all i had but i asked him to do it since i didn't know how to do that yet and i was afraid. i walk back and this mexican kid (who also had a suburban, doesnt really matter but it was beat up and on beaner roach rims that stuck out 5" from either side and were prolly 14" in diameter with low-pro tires) sitting on the hood of my truck. literally perched up with the leg of his coveralls on my left fender.

i walked up and said 'hey, nice bench huh?' and he said 'yep' and i grabbed him by the collars of his coveralls and pulled him off and put him up against one of the two main posts on the lift and said 'if i ever catch you sitting on any of my goddamn vehicles again you're not going to like the outcome.'

my instructor saw the whole thing. i told him as i was walking back towards my truck "if you happen to look over towards my suburban, just look the other way.." and he said "oh, b/c of *kids name*? will do." and had a smile on his face. said instructor also had a.. 70? 71? mustang with a 351 swap and a bunch of work done to it.. welll, multiple times he caught this student sitting inside, on the trunk, on the hood. I can't stand people who dont respect other people shit.

My cars are all beat up, but it's still disrespectful. There was a guy leaning on the back of my car in a mall parking lot. He turned out to be a car salesman and tried to talk me into buying a new car after I gave him the nice car line. Some people are shitheads it's just the way they are, no respect for other people's property.

A couple years ago when I first got my Bonne, I was at Home Depot parked next to a silver Audi A6. I came walking out to this A6 guy trying to load crap into his backseat and trunk. I walk up I'm thinking to myself that his door is pretty close to my car. Sure enough his door edge is up against my rear door.

I walk up, stand there and look at the guy. He looks up at me and then I move my eyes towards the door. He looked over and said..."Oh". He proceeds to close his door and then look at my door. He takes his fingers and then rubs the area on MY door where his door was. He proceeds to look up at me and say "It's ok." I was thinking, "WTF?!? Are you serious?"

At this point (I didn't say a word), I just gave a look. He moved out of the way and proceeded to move towards his trunk. I unlock my car, open my door, start to get in and press my drivers side door into his passenger side door. Once in the car, I used my foot to press my door into his even harder. I close the door and start the car. I look over and notice a decent size dent in his door.

Feeling a little better, I waited a second or two, looked in my mirror and see him peek out from the trunk and then dissappear. I ended up driving off. Fuck his door.

how'd you make sure of that? do tell

It involved me towering over him while he was sitting at his desk. Then informing him that throwing pennies at my car is not tolerated by me. I then put my hand on his shoulder and gave a nice squeeze to get my point across. The teacher kept telling me to stop harassing this kid and i explained how i needed to have a discussion with him.

I was at a cruise night back when I had the Lumina, I parked off to the side but the cruise got so crowded people started parking their cars where I was. I was walking over to put my sunglasses back in the car since the sun was pretty much down, and these 2 guys were in between my car and a hot rod that was next to me just talking. One of them had both of his ass cheeks planted right on my fender.

So I walked up quietly around the back of the Lumina to the trunk, quietly opened it....then just fucking SLAMMED it shut. It startled both of them, and as I walked around I said, "oh..I'm sorry did that startle your ass? Good, get it the hell off of my car moron." and walked away.

I know the Lumina was just a Lumina, but shit....

the car doesn't matter, matt. the fact is that it's not their car, they shouldn't be on it. no matter what kinda car it is or how "uncool" you or someone else might think it is, it's still your car, you respect it. they should too.

I was taught this growing up, and adhere to those rules today. Some people just don't care. If its not theirs or have any sort of value to them they don't care.

A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday, I was at my girlfriend's house and her "nice" car was parked outside in front. There is a concrete pad in front of the house that adds two parking spaces.

The issue was with the neighbor's crackwhore daughter, her crackhead boyfriend, her idiot brother-in-law, and her daughter's idiot boyfriend playing with a football in the neighbor's front yard. Every now and then, the football would get away from one of them and head right at the PT Cruiser. It even hit it a few times. She went out there and bitched at them at least twice, and they still kept playing. I swear that she was about to take all of them on, and I believe that she probably would have killed them all with her bare hands. She loves that PT Cruiser as it is Deep Cranberry, is a 2001 Limited Edition, and has only 24,000 miles on it. She almost has it paid off, and I don't blame her for getting supremely pissed at those fucktards. She learned to wash, wax, and detail it herself, and doesn't need blemishes to make her miserable

The idiot kids across the street from her were also throwing cookies at her beater... It's a tired, paint-fading, rusty in places, Black 1995 Intrepid, but still it's personal property. Treat it like it's yours, and if you treat your shit badly then I feel sad for you... So treat it much better than your own stuff if you treat your stuff like shit...

People who mis-treat cars that aren't even theirs should be legal game... shoot their fucking asses...

I also went to a car show in Belvidere last weekend (May 16th), I didn't dare touch any car there, even if it was not fully show quality... Hell, I didn't even touch my Dad's '74 Fury without permission. It made no bearing that it wasn't in the show, it isn't my car and I have no right to touch it without permission.
