w body store 255 fuel pump help

I am trying to figure out how to put the fuel sock on the new pump, something just doesn't seem to fit right. It looks like the metal ring that comes off of the sock is the same size as the bottom of the fuel pump that it attaches to...so they won't snap or fit together. anyone heard of this? I found out that it was the wrong pump...I got in a sticky situation, so I had to go to intense in the a.m. to pick a walbro up. I don't have any pics b/c we are putting my car back together as I type this. Essentially, the part of the pump that is the intake where the sock goes onto was too big for the sock. After I got the correct pump, I noticed that the intake on the wbody one was too big. So I assumed it is the wrong pump.

The pump i got from w-body came with a new sock.......

Im not using it anymore tho, because it wouldnt prime right and had the crank the fuck out of the car to get it started.
