As the topic states, i am stil at a loss. Ok, i am coming home from work, i am following this lady in this silver 00+ Cougar for about 5-10 miles on this 2 lane road. We get out on RT126 coming up to this new stoplight, she slows down real slow almost to a stop, then lets off the brakes, a split second later she slams them on full blown intentionally for no reason, i slam my brakes come about 6 inches from smacking her, the guy behind me in this big Dodge Ram is about the same on my rear end. She turns, now i am pissed so i follow her, i catch back up to her, going about 35-40 she does the same f'in thing for no reason. Gave up after that b/c i was dealing with someone who wasnt sane.

Now here is where i get confused, why is this lady trying to get into an accident and what did i do to piss her off. I wasnt tail gating her, i wasnt flickin her off. So all day today i been thinking about it b/c it bothered me so bad. Now tonight on the way home i noticed something strange, recently i installed the silverstar headlights, as im driving im looking at the reflection in the car in front of me and i noticed that everytime i hit a bump my headlights shake up and down. So the only think i can think of is that she thought i was flashing my brights at her the night before. But i guess ill never know.

Quick question, do these 04+'s have a problem with the way the headlights a mounted or something wrong with the way the front end absorbs bumps?

i used to have this problem on and off.........you need to install you headlight correctly. every other time i went to the track i put it back in slightly wrong, realized a day or to later and fixed it. take out the whole assembly and install the right way. make sure the bulb is snuggly fit. i will put money on it that its just ever so slightly put in wrong. it happens
mine was on a 97-03 but on our 04 test mule we had the issue once(dont trust a half blind man to install bulbs correctly :glare: )

at least your front and rear end are still in one peice.

Actually chances are the headlight is installed just fine. The 04's had a TSB on the jittery headlights. This is why the quick releases were gone for 05' and they started using bolts to hold the lights down again.

You can pickup a kit from your local GM dealer.

Let me know if you're successful Nick. I don't feel like drilling like the TSB suggests. I'd rather stick rags behind the lights like someone on Club GP did!
[/b]

Will do, I'm going to get started on that ASAP, because I cant stand, the bouncing, nor can oncoming drivers I'm sure, nor can I imagine that the bouncing helps bulb/HID bulb longevity. <_<

Bolts, man that sucks reminds me of the old 97 GTP i had. I changed my headlights and fogs in 5 minutes with the quick release, loved it but appaently it is a problem as i had someone trying to get me to crash into them. TSB, is that like a recall or something that they would take care of charge free or no?

TSB: Technical Service Bulletin.. essentially its a recall, but without the free of charge repair.

I believe the "kit" is 30 or so bucks. FWIW.

Subject: Headlamps Shake at Night (Install Bracket) #04-08-42-013 - (11/23/2004)

Models: 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition
Some customer may comment that the headlamps shake at night.

Correction
Remove the headlamps following SI Document ID #1235508.

Using a side cutter, remove the rubber bumper as shown in the illustration above.

Measure from the CENTER of the existing hole 17 mm (21/32 in) outboard. Then measure 10 mm (13/32 in) from the end of that line upward. Drill an 11 mm (3/8 in) hole through the fascia support (drill pilot hole first)/ Refer to the illustration above.

Install a push-in nut into the bracket and install the bracket to the new hole in the fascia using one of the bolts from the kit. Refer to the illustration above.

Mark the center of the hole in the bracket. Refer to the illustration above.
Notice: If needed in this next step, for better access to the marked hole location, loosen the cross car carrier by undoing the screw on the top outboard attachment leg. Slip off the location pin and flex cross car carrier forward. Cover the fender to avoid damage by the tool (the pilot hole can be drilled first).

Remove the support bracket. Center punch the mark made in Step 5 and drill an 11 mm (3/8 in) hole in the wheelhouse extension panel.

Important: If needed, flatten the flange of the wheelhouse extension panel to get a flat seating surface for the J-clip and also for the fascia support bracket.

Place the J-clip over the hole that was just drilled. Refer to the illustration above.
Reinstall the support bracket and install the bolt in the J-clip and fascia support and tighten both bolts. Repeat for other side.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9 ±2 N·m (7 lb ft).

Replace the plastic headlamp retainer with a metal retainer to the fascia support, orienting the upper tab rearward in car position. Ensure the part marked "L" is used on the left hand side of the fascia support and the part marked "R" is used on the right hand side of the fascia support. Refer to the illustration above.
Push the metal headlamp retainer down until it contacts the upper radiator support.
Mark the location to drill a hole in the radiator support tie bar using the hole in the metal headlamp retainer as a template.
Remove the metal headlamp retainer from the fascia support.
Drill a #3, 5.5 mm (7/32 in) hole in the radiator support.

Reinstall the metal headlamp retainer to the fascia support. Ensure the two holes marked in the illustration above are clear before the headlamp installation. Do not push down on the retainer.
Important: If needed, lift the metal headlamp retaining fork to allow the headlamp retention posts to slide through the headlamp retaining fork and fascia support.

Install the headlamp. Refer to SI Document ID #1235508.
Push the headlamp retainer fork down until the tab on the retainer fork rests against the radiator support tie bar.

Install the bolt through the retainer and tighten the bolt. Refer to the illustration above.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5 ±1 N·m (4 lb ft).

Verify correct headlamp function and operation.
Verify that the headlamps are aimed correctly.

With that many problems that kind of stuff should be repaired for free. Especially since i didnt know of TSB's and i see a ton on that list that i have experienced. I mean i am the customer i bought the product and theres this many problems and i am expected to pay for it, you gotta be f'in me.

I work in the manufacturing business for the automotive industry (I work for an insert injection molding company that produces electrical housings ie air bag sensors (TRW), throttle shafts (Delphi), ignition components (Denso) etc) when a part gets returned from the customer, its on our time and our cost to find a fix and hold to it that it doesnt happen again Unbelieveable why cant the same hold true for someone who spends the cash on a car.... but whata ya expect now a days!!!

Subject: Headliner Wet/Water Leak Around Sun Roof (Modify Drain Hose) #04-08-57-007B - (12/06/2005)

Models: 2004-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Impala

2004-2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to add leak repair verification steps. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-08-57-007A (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition
Some customers may comment that the headliner is wet or that water is dripping out of the overhead reading lamp.

Cause
Both front corners of the sunroof have a drain hose running down the "A" pillar and end up down at the floor behind the lower kick pad on the left or right side. The end of the sun roof drain hoses may be laying flat against the foam at the base of the "A" pillar. This may cause a partially plugged drain hose. During a heavy rain, water that should be draining away may back up and overflow into the headliner at the front of the vehicle.

Correction
Remove the lower right hand and left hand lower kick pad.
After locating the hose, cut the end of the hose into a point.
Verify that the lower "A" pillar drains are open by pouring a cup of water in the bottom of the "A" pillar.
Check the drain hoses from the sunroof down to the bottom of the "A" pillar by using shop air.
Reinstall the kick pad.

The problem is that the Tech must hear or visually see the problem in order for it to be fixed under warranty. The customers word is never enough  . Its bullshit. Ive been to the dealership so many times its re-fukntarded...... I just gave up on some of my issues since they are not that major. Ive had my ISS re-lubed and replaced and of course I have the problem back. Ive had so many of those tsb's and only a few that Ive actually experienced were fixed under warranty. The FAMOUS " CANT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM". Its fukn lame! I just dont care anymore as long as the car starts and runs good. Im trading this bitch in as soon as my extended warranty is up.

how can the tech fix a problem if the car doesnt exhibit the problem? the car has to be acting up, if you say theres a rattle when you hit a bump, tech takes car for a ride, hits bumps, and it doesnt do it, the shop wont get paid more than 3 tenths of an hour for diagnosis, and if the tech if flat rate, he will only get paid for the same. thats why they do it. otherwise a tech could spend 2 hours trying to get a car to act up, and it wont.

the steering shaft is a joke. the new ones they are telling us to put in, are a new part number but same shaft, same style, and it's only a matter of time until it will exhibit the clunk as well. they really need to do something with a total re-design. problem is, they wont recall it because it's not a safety issue, its just a noise...

Exactly... Sometimes problems pop up when they want to and wont when you need them too......that doesnt mean there isnt a problem. I pay for an extended warranty I cant even use because half the time they cant produce a problem I have. They took it for a ride around the block and expect that to be sufficient. I understand your on a time basis and between the customer and the dealer but in the end its bad for the customer. Sometimes its hard to hear something when you dont know what your listening for. I had the snap crackle pop when steering at really low speeds and it was so easy to produce. The tech said he couldnt produce it so luckily I was there and took his deaf ass ;) for a 1 minute ride through the dealership lot and easily produced it. Ive owned three gm (new) cars in the last 7 years so its nothing new to me. The GP was by far the worst with problems, the impala had a few lil issues, and my alero not ONE problem.
